challenge 11 - a photograph of the town i live in

well i live in a small town an hour south of SLC. spanish fork utah. i explain this as though i have readers from all over that don't know where i live. anyway, in looking for some pics online to post, i realized that there are a few things that i love about this town, so i am putting up more than one photograph. enjoy the scenic route!!

nice aerial view of the city. you definitely cannot miss the baseball fields - spanish fork is ALL about the baseball. pretty much henry isn't a REAL spanish forkian because he hasn't started playing baseball yet.

"the spins" as hen calls them. this is such a cool landmark to the mouth of the canyon. and i have a friend that thinks it would be cool to be strapped to the end of one of the blades and twirl and twirl.

the hare krishna temple sits on the border of spanish fork and salem. really cool in person. and they have A LOT of parties and A LOT of llamas. i couldn't find a picture of the jehovah witness church that is across the street from this temple. we like to call that street "religion row"

AND the best part about spanish fork is the icelandic monument. *insert* STORY TIME. so about 150+ years ago some icelanders got baptized in the mormon church and trekked over to america and landed in spanish fork utah. therefore, a TON of people from spanish fork are icelandic and there is some serious icelandic pride in the town. OH, and at my house as well because mca is icelandic. anyway, for the 150 year anniversary of the settlement, the president of iceland came to our little town for a huge celebration. the then mormon prophet, gordon b. hinkley, dedicated the monument. the ceremony was so awesome. my SIL was the icelandic association president so we got some sweet seats for the dedication. let us not forget that mca and i have also been to iceland. so we love this little monument on the hill.

we visit the cemetery quite often in our little family. but, i love it there. i love all the trees and we mustn't forget the amazing historical meaning with all of the icelanders that are buried there. look at me now with the icelandic pride.

i really do love our little town. it is just so quaint and lovely. i have even gotten into the spirit of not wanting the big guys (walmart, target, ect) to come to town to keep it that way. i will picket if i have to. anyway, come visit some time.
